About Katie Beach

My work is dedicated to ensuring that government policies that guide resource management are based on local experiences and sound science. I primarily work in fisheries with First Nations communities but have done some work on water, mining, business and justice issues and all levels of governments as well as Non-governmental organizations. My work is guided by having Master's degree in Resource and Environmental Management (MRM) and over fifteen years of work experience with First Nations, provincial and federal governments, NGOs, and community organizations. I understand that decision makers need to consider science, but they must do so while considering the impact that decisions will have on the social environment, the economy, the governing policies, and other resources or industries. I have worked on contract to some organizations and as an employee to others providing science and policy input to consider the whole picture and to ensure that the communication of scientific information and/or policy is geared to the audience. Some of my skills are as follows- Excellent organization skills, including strategic planning, task prioritization problem solving, note taking and document structuring- Ability to think critically across multiple layers, including biology, economics, policy and social science- Facilitation of meetings- Ability to supervise, mentor and train others- Strong written and oral communication skills- Experience with First Nations fisheries and other resource management issues.
