Background
About Katie Fitzpatrick
A graduate from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s of Science from the College of Architecture, Fitzpatrick has five years of experience in Historic Preservation. After graduating from Texas A&M University in December 2016, she began an internship with Preservation Dallas where she worked alongside Executive Director, David Preziosi, to gain knowledge of the processes required to protect the history and culture of Dallas. Through this internship and involvement with inner-city youth, an interest in Historic Preservation for under-represented demographics arose. She left Texas for New Orleans to begin graduate school at Tulane University. Fitzpatrick continued to pursue her interest in under-represented demographics through an internship and practicum with the Leona Tate Foundation for Change in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Through this experience, she managed the Lower Ninth Ward Living Museum and acted as facilitator during the Foundation’s summer camp which served at-risk youth. This experience was a pivotal point in her education and provided the basis for her Masters capstone project, “Preservation for Under-Represented Demographics: How Preservation Can Be Relevant for All”. Fitzpatrick graduated with a Masters in Preservation Studies from the School of Architecture in December 2018. Fitzpatrick then worked with FEMA as a Historic Preservation Specialist. Her role took her to various domestic disaster sites in order to review prospective projects for compliance with Section 106. Fitzpatrick served as a historic structure specialist acting as liaison between FEMA and the Florida State Historic Preservation Office for projects requiring Section 106 Review. Fitzpatrick meets the Secretary of Interior Standards for Professional Qualifications in Architectural History and worked with Terracon as a Field Scientist for a year in Jacksonville, FL. Her work with Terracon involved a large range of projects in preservation including Historic District Surveys, Cemetery Restoration, CRAS work, and Section 106 Compliance Review. Since joining SEARCH in May 2021, Fitzpatrick has garnered experience in the Transportation Sector completing field work, CRAS reports, Stip Letters, and comprehensive DOEs for various federal entities. SEARCH joined the disaster sector in December 2021 where Fitzpatrick served as a Historic Structures Specialist with FEMA for five presidential declared disasters in Louisiana. In December 2022, Fitzpatrick returned to Dallas, TX and resumed her role as Lead Architectural Historian in Transportation sector with SEARCH.
