About Katie Harris

As a freelance journalist I’ve had the privilege of covering the topics Coloradans care about for the past 17 years. From agriculture to education, I strive to uncover the angle that will capture my audience’s interest and keep it to the very last word. I believe that, if I’m not inspired by the story I’m writing, my readers won’t be either. With that mantra in mind I tirelessly track down not only the most knowledgeable source, but the most intriguing, charismatic, or quirky local source for each story I write. I pride myself in submitting clean, concise, and thoughtful pieces that require very little editing. From tongue-in-cheek personal essays on the challenges of motherhood to impactful features on local organizations that are changing our community, my goal is to allow my unique voice and passion for my craft to shine through in every piece I write. I’ve been honored as a recipient of five Colorado Press Association awards for my work in the Berthoud Weekly Surveyor, including “Best feature in its class” back-to-back years. Favorite regular contributions include monthly features, personal essays, and travel articles—a new department which I pitched in 2022 and have been writing since—for Rocky Mountain Parent Magazine; quarterly features for Fifty & Better Magazine; an annual centerpiece feature for Northern Colorado Home Buyers Guide; in-depth local stories for the Berthoud Weekly Surveyor; and monthly features for NOCO Style Magazine. I love tackling new challenges and am currently open to work on a case-by-case basis.
