About Katie Hellum

I am a passionate math educator with nine years of experience inspiring students and empowering teachers. My journey in education has been marked by meaningful milestones, including being named "Teacher of the Year" for 2020-2021, a testament to my commitment to excellence in the classroom. Throughout my career, I’ve honed a variety of skills such as facilitating engaging lessons, designing data-driven instruction, and organizing professional development for educators. One of my most rewarding roles was serving as co-coordinator for the Leader in Me program at our campus, rooted in Sean Covey’s 7 Habits of Happy Kids. This four-year pilot program focused on helping students take ownership of their learning by tracking personal and academic progress, ultimately earning our school Lighthouse status—a distinction that celebrates a culture of leadership and community. Beyond academics, I’m deeply passionate about addressing the social and emotional well-being of both students and professionals. Life’s challenges often leave people, young and old, struggling to communicate and establish healthy boundaries. This realization has inspired me to return to graduate school to pursue a degree in counseling, where I can equip others with the tools to navigate life’s complexities. As I look toward the next chapter of my career, I’m eager to embrace new challenges and opportunities that allow me to make a broader impact. Whether supporting students or empowering colleagues, I’m driven by positivity, leadership, and a desire to create meaningful change.
