About Katie Holcomb

My passion has always been in science. Graduating with a Bachelor's in Biology allowed me to pursue and expand my knowledge. Teaching has allowed me to share my passion and knowledge with others. Through my experiences in teaching I have improved my ability to multitask, as well as my organization and planning skills. Continuing my education and improving my skills is important to me. I have had the privilege of working with some of the best professionals and have been able to build connections through the many conferences and programs in which I have participated. My passion for science was renewed during my collaboration with Virginia Tech's Engineering and Biology departments through their Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program. This project resulted in the opportunity for me to present at the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Virginia Association of Science Teachers (VAST) conferences. I also was able to work with other professionals to lead a group of educators through their RET and research experiences. I like challenges that allow me to work with individuals and groups of people to accomplish a goal. I am very task oriented, organized, and understand that team work and collaboration make for stronger products. Solid communication, leadership and organization can create a team that will be successful, and I am looking forward to working with these individuals.
