About Katie Stapleton

I am currently studying for my Master's degree in Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University. My interests include clinical mental health counseling specializing in the treatment of eating disorders and disordered eating, medical social work, and working with children and families. I chose the social work profession because I am passionate about dismantling systems of oppression and advocating in the best interest of the client. Social justice issues and access to mental health services are the main reasons I joined the field social work. My personal philosophy of social work includes a holistic, relational approach. I believe in the unique strengths and characteristics of each individual I work collaboratively with and I strive to assist clients in reaching their goals. I deeply value the importance of human relationships and aim to create a safe connection with each client. I combine a human centered approach with the use of evidence based modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, and motivational interviewing.
