Katina Rae Stapleton, Ph.D, is a people-focused and results-driven federal leader with 19+ years of proven success in the education sciences; diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives; and communications.Committed to continuously enhancing U.S. educational experiences and learning outcomes, Katina has successfully directed the development and execution of discretionary research and training grant programs while providing strategic guidance on federal and agency-level DEIA initiatives. She is a dynamic change agent with extensive experience leading cross-functional project teams, instilling an organizational focus on diversity and inclusivity, and leading a strategic federal initiative to make public-facing communications easier to understand and use.Selected Career Achievements:* Oversees a portfolio of education research and education research training grants for the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), U.S. Department of Education * Serves as a key leader in the U.S. Department of Education for diversity, inclusion, disability awareness, and equity initiatives, including serving 3 consecutive terms as Secretary of the agency-wide Diversity Council and launching a principal office-level Diversity Council for IES* Received the 2022 Service to the Citizen Award for serving as Co-Chair of the Plain Language Action and Information Network (PLAIN) which includes co-leading PLAIN’s community of practice and plainlanguage.gov.* Serves as the Strategic Communications Advisor for White House Office of Scientific and Technology Policy Subcommittee on Equitable Data, including developing reports which demonstrate how federal agencies utilize data to identify disparities across national policies and programs.Personal Passions:Katina loves learning and creating! In her free time you may find Katina curled up with a book or at a workshop to improve her AI, mixed media, mosaic, design or graphics skills.
