About Katrin Hunter

What do you get when you cross The Twilight Zone, The Muppets, and Jaws: The Ride? Me! I'm an American Mid-Western Storyteller who explores the intersection of narrative writing, surrealist cinema, and themed experiences. Stories are what make the world work and I'd be thrilled to write them. I am passionate about stories that help explore the complexity of the world around us. I especially feel called to stories that work to deepen our educational or empathetic understanding of one another and the natural phenomena we live among. This penchant was on display (literally) in my pop-up installation "What Remains Beneath: The Story of Odysseus the Catfish", a self-created 10ft x 6ft x 8ft catfish skeleton that found its home at the University of Missouri Student Center. A jack of all trades, I thoroughly enjoy learning everything and anything I can about, well, everything! Areas of interest include the worlds and aesthetics of children's television, the 70s-80s blockbusters/film sets, natural sciences/ecology, hoaxes, science fiction, puppets, and psychological horror. My work takes inspiration from the bewitching messages of the macabre to explore the duality of whimsy and fear as seen in the short films I have written and directed.
