About Katrina Dewitt

I am a microbiologist with a strong background in environmental microbiology, microbial identification, and laboratory research. My expertise includes bacterial and fungal enumeration, sterility testing, and microbial community analysis, with a focus on how microorganisms interact with their environments. At Duke University, my research explores the ecological effects of temperature and nutrients on microbial communities, contributing to a broader understanding of environmental microbiology and microbial adaptation. My work has been published in Global Change Biology and involves experimental design, data analysis, and laboratory testing methodologies. Previously, at Rutgers University, I contributed to microbiology education by co-developing an online microbiology lab course for nursing students, integrating scientific research with innovative learning tools. In the laboratory, I gained hands-on experience with microbial culturing, pathogen detection, and environmental monitoring, skills that are essential for both research and industry applications.
