About Katrina Hegarty

My priority as a teacher is ensuring the holistic development of all students, in an atmosphere of mutual respect, that values creativity, effort and participation. To that end, my principles are grounded in motivational student-centered approaches, where students are encouraged to find and use their talents on their own personal pathways. In my teaching career to date, I have successfully set up six departments in different schools, leading in a role that allowed me to focus on curriculum and assessment design, and incorporating drama, dance, public speaking and media studies in the curriculum from Foundation Stage to Key Stage 5. As Director of Performing Arts in my current school, and with the support of key stakeholders, I have successfully initiated and implemented ideas such as the inclusion of dance in the Senior School curriculum, as well as developing an Early Years, Junior School drama programme, IGCSE programmes, IBDP programmes and IBCP programmes. I am an advocate of the IB Programme, having 14 years of experience as an examiner, and working for ISTA as a Student Ensemble Leader where I regularly lead student workshops (TaPs) to enhance learning experiences at IB level. Through my performing arts background, I have always had an important role within CAS, supervising a range of arts/industry projects. I am also privileged to be teaching the IBCP and leading on the UAL Performing and Production Arts pathway with our performing arts students. I enjoy teamwork and forging positive connections with young learners and colleagues. I have a track-record of success in change management and building capacity within teams that I collaborate with and lead.
