Background
About Katrina Hoffmann
I am nationally certified and state-licensed athletic trainer who joined Children’s Wisconsin Sports Medicine Program in 2015. I combined my love of sports and passion for helping others by earning a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2012. While at UWM, I completed an internship with Froedtert Sports Medicine and their Performance Enhancement Program as well as Wisconsin Lutheran College. After graduating undergrad I completed a year internship as an Athletic Trainer at Beloit College. Following my passion for nutrition, I returned to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to obtain a minor in Nutritional Sciences in 2014. I then went on to obtain a master's degree in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia in 2015 while also serving as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the UVA softball program. While at UVA, I specialized my thesis and research in sports related concussion. Since starting at Children's Wisconsin, I have been able to expand my role to being the point of contact for our concussion program. I have also worked to develop an online e-Learning course for K-12 educators that outlines a process for transitioning students who have recently had a concussion back into the classroom and back to academics without making concussion symptoms worse. The program is called Return to Learn, and it’s FREE for Wisconsin educators. Driven by my own personal experience, I began utilizing my personal time to move forward another innovative project – this one aimed at ensuring that all Wisconsin kids have the opportunity to be the healthiest in the nation… including cancer survivors. Formally launching in the Spring of 2019, Joeclyn and myself coordinated all logistics for the 9 children, who had all previously been treated at the MACC Fund Center, to train twice per week for 14 weeks for the 2019 Janesville Subaru Tri-ing for Children’s kid’s triathlon. On July 28th, all 9 kids that were involved with our Team Survivors program competed in, and finished, the triathlon. But their stories were bigger than finishing that race – they made friends, some learned to ride a bike for the first time, some found a confidence they didn’t know they had, and all realized that they don’t need to be defined by unfortunate events in their lives. Our goal is to continue to expand the program for years and years to come. When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my fiance, traveling with friends and family, camping, hiking, and playing with my dogs.
