Background
About Katrina Sheikh
A little bit about me (not your average doctor)#Hellomynameis Katrina. I am a Midlander (Solihull). I did my first 4 years as a junior doctor in Birmingham then specialised in Acute Medicine & completed Registrar training in London. I now work as a Locum Consultant in Birmingham, by choice. I have decided to control my rota for once! I am a big advocate of postgraduate entry into medicine as I strongly believe it has made me a better doctor. I absolutely love my job, my patients and my colleagues. I am constantly grateful that I have the opportunity to meet and treat such a variety of patients. Having lost my Father in my 20s who was an excellent psychiatrist, I have adopted his strong belief in positive mental attitude. His favourite poem Desiderata lives on in our family. He never saw me get into Medicine and although life is very challenging sometimes, I try to focus on the things that I am grateful for. In my spare time, I love to paint and I am a big fan of high intensity interval training, running and spin. These activities clear the mind and allow one to think more focused. People would describe me as passionate, positive and playful. I have been told by fellow colleagues that my smile brightens up a dreary day and if you see someone not wearing one, give them yours. Having experienced undermining and poor leadership during my career, I pursued a specialist interest in leadership and management. I am a big advocate of supporting junior doctors and strive to develop a culture in the NHS where colleagues feel able to raise concerns and are supported when they do so. I am big fitness enthusiast and Ambassador for Huel (my dream) and love meeting new people with similar interests & new ways of managing both a busy rota & exercise. I am up for challenges both in and out of Medicine, especially if you can make the world a better place so feel free to DM me with new ideas. Otherwise, I leave you with my late Father’s favourite quote which is actually tattooed on my foot, “Laughter is the best Medicine.”
