About Katy MacCornack

Hi! I have been working in education for the students of New Mexico for over 12 years. I am the Educator Recruitment & Retention Coordinator for the New Mexico Public Education Department, in the Division of Educator Quality and Ethics, in the Bureau of Educator Pathways. I support home-grown, diverse educator recruiting via providing multiple on-ramps for all points of entry, including high school, college, pre-service, paraprofessional, and teachers advancing in their craft. The Educator Pathways Team works to ensure there are low to no barriers, especially those that disproportionately affect BIPOC teacher candidates, to entry to the New Mexico Educator Ecosystem. Our team partners with the state-approved educator preparation programs to provide equitable, high-quality educator preparation programs. We ensure that NM educators will possess the skills necessary to effectively serve the diverse student populations of New Mexico because they feel supported and prepared to serve all students. Prior to serving in state government, I worked for Albuquerque Public Schools in the Office of Accountability and Reporting as a School Accountability Support Coordinator. We supported schools with using data to drive continuous improvement and create short and long term school goals to guide student success. I taught 6th graders at Eisenhower Middle School for 7 years. I developed and implemented my own curriculum for Earth Science and Info Tech courses.
