About Katy Schmidt

Having grown up in an area rich with history I fell in love with history and museums at a young age. This love drove me to seek a Bachelor’s degree in archaeology and my Master’s in museum science. I believe that museums and heritage sites are our physical connections to the past and that it is our duty to preserve these historic sites and artefacts for future generations to appreciate. It is a personal motto of mine that preservation comes from education and education comes from presentation. In other words it is through allowing people access to historic sites and artifacts that their appreciation and respect for them grows and when people have personal connections to a site they are more likely to protect it. Museums and heritage sites provide opportunities for people to make these personal connections.
