Background
About Katy Wolff
As many of my counterparts are, I am rooted deeply in the profession of Agriculture. My Grandfather was a cattle feeder and produce farmer in Northeast Ohio and as such, my entire childhood is littered with memories of playing on the farm until I was old enough to contribute by working the sweet corn stand in the summer or helping in the pumpkin patch each fall. I lived on a small 5 acre hobby farm, however, this is where I truly became enthralled with livestock via my annual 4H projects. There was no question, I wanted to go to school at Ohio State and major in Animal Science. After joining every judging team I could at Ohio State, I moved on to the University of Missouri and ultimately garnered a Ph.D. My operating principles are based on a thorough scientific background after my time dedicated to earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) focused in Animal/Meat Science from University of Missouri-Columbia. For more than 10 years, I have demonstrated a history of interest and working in the food production industry and garner skills for the slaughter and fabrication of several species to benchtop laboratory work. Additionally, I am skilled in coaching and teaching, public speaking, and disseminating information to my peers in a concise and understandable manner. From my first 5 years at Cargill, I have extensive experience with writing protocols for testing new equipment and technology in the food space, specifically for primary beef applications. I was formally in a Project Management role and responsible for analyzing results and then using the data to help drive business decisions. Presently, I sit on a centralized corporate team that oversees company wide supply chain strategies, goals, and operating principles. I also am a dedicated working mother. I am strongly passionate about being a resource for other working moms as well as advocating for women in the workforce. As such, I volunteer for the Women's Meat Industry Network (WMIN) and serve as a chair for the Professional Enrichment Committee. Additionally, I am a member of WiM, Women in Operations a national organization supporting women in the workplace. My husband and I live in Northeast Nebraska where we are currently raising three daughters and spend our nights and weekends raising small ruminant livestock and contributing to the family beef operation. We are the owners/operators of Meadow Creek Farms and raise cattle, sheep, goats, and free-range poultry for eggs. We are actively involved in our local community and support our church/school by serving on several committees.
