About Katya Mitchell

As Head of College English Studies, I work daily with the teams across our College to develop and deliver purposeful, authentic, and superior quality English programmes. I make it my business to understand the current climate of educational environments and the demands for which our students need to be prepared. I have always relied on my life experiences, values, personal and professional beliefs to shape my educational philosophy. Yet it is our students who influence me most. Nothing gives me more pleasure than spending time with students, hearing about their academic and future life dreams, and helping them devise a pathway to fulfill those. I thrive in a stimulating and challenging environment, and enjoy tasks that require analysis of data, deconstruction of processes and procedures that do not work smoothly and development of new ones that do. I am passionate about English as a subject area, and I enjoy the creative process that is teaching. I am a strong believer in collaboration, and I draw on expertise and resources within the faculty and wider campus to achieve objectives and enhance outcomes. But what really matters to me is the part I play in building a work culture that embraces diversity, strives for transparency, and nurtures inclusiveness and empathy.
