About Katya Perez

Hi! My name is Katya and I'm a Latine, first generation college graduate from the north shore of Massachusetts. Since I was a child, I have been deeply passionate about social justice. I'm especially drawn to learning, training, coaching, and guiding folks to better understand their identities and their communities. I have spent most of my career in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) roles, particularly in higher education and healthcare. Most of my projects have included curriculum design, large & small group facilitation, strategic planning, and mentorship. I am a high-achiever with high standards, but I believe strongly in maintaining a life-work balance that prioritizes my humanity and well-being. Moving forward in my professional journey, I want to incorporate more imagination and creativity into DEI. In my opinion, inclusion from oppressive systems isn't enough to achieve justice. I believe in the power and necessity of redesigning institutional practices, policies and culture with radical acceptance. I seek out colleagues and teams who are excited about change and challenging the status quo to improve the human condition. Currently I am serving as Program Coordinator in the Center for Justice and Liberation at Salem State University. Please reach out to connect if you would like to learn more about my previous work and professional goals.
