About Kaycie Atchison

In my ten years of experience in Transfusion Medicine, I have constantly searched for opportunities to grow my knowledge and skills in the practice of blood banking. I have extensive experience in hospital-based Transfusion Medicine, having worked in multiple Level I Trauma Centers, a prestigious academic hospital with a wide range of specialties including solid organ transplantation, neurosurgery, hematology oncology, as well as treatment and care of many other oncology sub-specialties. I currently manage the blood product inventory for a facility that transfuses over blood products annually. I have experience in all of the major techniques used in a blood bank, including but not limited to gel, solid phase, tube (PeG and LISS,) enzyme and chemical pre-treatment, reticulocyte separation, adsorptions, antigen typing, and thermal amplitude testing. I have used my skills to complete employee and student training. I have presented at multiple educational seminars with topics such as interesting case studies and massive transfusion protocols. I am currently enrolled at The Ohio State University in a Master's degree program for applied clinical and preclinical research with a focus in clinical research management. My goal is to use this education to advance my career specifically moving toward a position in patient blood management coordination.
