About Kayla Almarode

Solving problems, coding, discovering new ways to help, all bring me joy and set me on fire. I originally explored and loved coding, but ended up switching focuses to mental health in order to help people more directly. I loved talking to people, providing support and empowerment, hearing their stories, and being there with them during the bad times. One day, I started reading about data science, this thing I kept hearing about but didn't really know what it was. What I found electrocuted me. Storytelling from numbers, helping people, drawing connections, discovering things - it was exactly what I was passionate about. I love turning words and language into something computers can understand. It's satisfying to take so much different information and find the ways they're related. I get so excited creating and improving models that ultimately help people. There's nothing like that anticipation when a model finishes training and I get to test how it performed, if it will help, what it's able to do! And then continue making it better. My specialties include being a lifelong learner who will pick up whatever skills the project requires. My skills currently includes Python, Numpy, Pandas, NLTK, Keras, and TensorFlow, with a focus on natural language processing.
