About Kayla Calero

I graduated with a Bachelors of Science from the University of Scranton. My major is the Counseling and Human Services field. Since high school, I did many hours of volunteer work such as visiting patients in nursing homes; packaging and supplying food at a local food pantry. I continued my volunteership throughout college. I've participated in community building events such picking up trash from the streets and writing letters to veterans. As a service and hobby, I joined The University's Campus Ministries Program. As a retreat leader, I was involved in team building exercises that allowed me to practice my leadership skills amongst my peers. I did an internship for each year of my junior and senior year of college. In total, I accomplished 350 hours of service to the local community. This past year, I interned at Hospice of the Sacred Heart where I learned the ways and practice of hospice work amongst families. I was on Dean's List in my sophomore and senior year for receiving outstanding grades. As for job experience, I was a camp counselor at Spring Lake Day Camp for two years. There I chaperoned young children and adolescents for five days a week. Currently, I am working at The Funplex as a food runner in East Hanover NJ. I am interested in finding a job where I can work with children at a private practice counseling agency. I hope to experience, learn, and practice more about the mental health aspect of a child in the counseling department.
