About Kayla Crossan

I’ve been a school counselor for five years, in both the middle and high school settings. This has given me a wealth of experience in the area of communication. I’ve had the pleasure of developing a daily practice of effectively and cooperatively communicating with professional colleagues, discretely working with students to address problems, and pleasantly talking with families as I connect them with needed resources. I also have considerable experience communicating with the larger school community about upcoming events through the creation and distribution of a quarterly newsletter and regular use of social media applications.My experience as a school counselor has made me very detail-oriented and a strong communicator. I’m a pro at coordinating and carrying-out simultaneous projects to ensure that all projects are completed in a timely manner, while ensuring that there is consistent communication with all stakeholders. I have become a reliable support person for families and professional peers by offering consistent, clear communication regarding school processes and a mental health lens when addressing concerns and providing support. Staying organized and having seamless follow-through are skills that I have developed in my professional career. This skillset has been developed through my use of Microsoft Office applications for meeting coordination, note-taking, and agenda creation in preparation for meetings, as well as data collection and tracking in the creation of student support plans.In addition to coordinating meetings for both myself and prior supervisors, I have successfully planned, coordinated, and carried-out events for my prior high school. One such event was a senior awards assembly that included creating and sending invitations to honorable town representatives, scholarship donors, administrators from neighboring schools, and families of graduating students. Another notable event was the high school graduation ceremonies, where I played a primary role in coaching students through graduation rehearsal and had the honor of speaking at graduation about the accomplishments of students. Throughout the course of my career I have had the pleasure of connecting with families of diverse backgrounds during events such as this, as well as in my daily work. I have demonstrated a commitment to equity, inclusion, and accessibility through my advocating for students and families to receive resources both inside and outside of the school community, as well as through my work to connect them with needed resources.
