Background
About Kayla Holmes
I deeply believe that our life experiences help mold us into the people we are today both at home and at work. Our trials and tribulations can either make us blossom or wither away, I decided to blossom. I moved out summer after grade 7 to become a live-in babysitter, fast forward 5 years and I graduated high school with a business math award, the Phoenix award and a missionary trip to Honduras orphanage under my belt. The missionary trip was a massive turning point for me and how I saw the world. It allowed me to see first hand how blessed I was and how my situation may have been sad it could definitely be worse.Due to having my own guardianship I was able to graduate early, start my manufacturing employment and buy my first house at 19. As a CNC Operator I found most joy in streamlining processes, learning how the machines worked, contributing to bettering the ergonomics and most definitely our Continuous Improvement Program. I was a lead contributor of our CIP and 18 of my improvements were implemented during the course of the year. Improving processes, work flow or even work environment through the social committees is something I am passionate about. Just because something isn't broken doesn't mean it can't be better, or my favorite is "that's how it's always been done", just because it's been that way forever doesn't mean it's efficient and can't be improved. As I moved away from machining and into the tool crib I was met with new exciting tasks. I was in charge of the needs for large production plants and also smaller custom shop needs, each with their own sets of challenges. The tasks that I enjoyed the most were working with production to streamline their tooling needs, dealing with our sales reps and learning about new innovative cutting tools and why they work better and how it can create savings for the company. I was able to do that by introducing relapped CBN inserts saving the company $28k+ per year. As a Tool Crib Attendant I wore many hats and dealt with all departments from production to accounting and everything in-between, I enjoyed this very much as it kept me busy and there was something new everyday. I am currently looking for full-time employment while running a small side gig doing nails and acrylic paintings. I would like to get back into the workforce where I am able to use my problem solving skills, interpersonal skills and allow me to think outside of the box and analyze different situations. To me work is not just a job and a paycheck but something I am proud to be doing.
