About Kayla Thomas

I have a Master of Science in Fitness and Sport Management from Troy University and a Bachelor of Science in Human Performance and Health Promotion from University of New Orleans. I am currently an Academic Advisor at Texas Southern University, where I provide academic support and guidance to students from diverse backgrounds and majors. I have strong attention to detail, communication, and online sales skills, which I developed through my previous roles as a Coordinator of Athletics Academic Services and a Testing Coordinator at University of Houston Athletics.In my previous roles, I oversaw the academic support program for Women’s Swimming & Diving and Women’s Soccer student-athletes, advised them on class, major and career selection, tracked and monitored their academic eligibility, and provided individualized instructional support. I also managed the day-to-day operations of the testing services, developed and updated policies and procedures, scheduled and publicized services, administered and proctored tests, and maintained security and integrity of testing materials and environment. I contributed to the success and well-being of the student-athletes and the testing services by working with the academic advisors, coaches, faculty, and staff. I am passionate about helping students achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals, and I can bring diverse perspectives and experiences to the team as an Academic Advisor at Texas Southern University.
