About Keegan Prue

As the first in my family to earn a college degree, I’ve experienced the transformative power of education firsthand. Though I once imagined myself headed toward law school or education policy, I quickly realized that too many policymakers had little experience working in schools. So after graduate school, I went where the real work happens: the classroom. I became a teacher and school leader in New York City—because I knew that to make meaningful change, I had to walk the walk. Today, I’m a seasoned educational leader and father of two, working to design and implement innovative strategies so that the schools of tomorrow provide transformational, engaging, and relevant experiences. My mission is to help students thrive—and to empower educators and school builders to create learning environments that reflect the world we live in and the future we’re building toward. Here are a few things that shape my work: 1. I’ve supported the launch of 100+ charter schools. At SUNY, I’ve led the review process for over 100 new charter school proposals, diving deep into curriculum and assessment design, governance, budgeting, and program evaluation. I’ve seen what sets successful school launches apart—and the common missteps that can derail even the most well-intentioned plans. Starting, growing, or expanding a school is one of the hardest things you can do. I’m passionate about helping school teams get it right. I believe real learning transcends the classroom. One of my favorite quotes is from Mark Twain: “Never let your schooling get in the way of your education.” The most powerful schools tap into curiosity, real-world experience, and relevance. Whether in high school, college, or my career, some of my best teachers have been peers, mentors, and experiences—not textbooks. I believe the future belongs to schools that build cultures and systems reflecting that truth. I’m all about family, food, and music. When I’m not talking school strategy, you’ll find me in the kitchen, playing music, or laughing with my two hilarious kids and wonderful wife. Swapping toddler stories is one of my favorite pastimes.
