Background
About Keely Anderson
Motivated by my belief that there is inherent goodness in all, I explore with individuals how to find positive ways to talk about, understand, and work with their emotional and behavioral struggles. Together we decide on reachable goals and develop dynamic, creative, and tangible ways to meet those goals. I am trained in the Expressive Arts and hold a Master of Expressive Therapies in Art Therapy, specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, from Lesley University. With additional training in Play Therapy, I effectively interweave art and play techniques to meet clients where they are, in the language they best understand. As a long-time meditation practitioner, I also know the benefit of mindfulness-awareness practice on one’s experiences and see value in integrating this practice into the therapeutic process. I specialize in working with trauma, knowing that it is an integrated part of our lives, presenting itself in many forms. I provide education, support, and a safe environment to process all types of traumatic experiences. I also have experience working with various mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, grief, neurodivergent behaviors (learning disabilities, ADHD, spectrum disorders), life transitions, LGBTQ matters, and family conflict. My Integrated Approach to Therapy The foundation of my therapeutic approach stems from the belief that the development of nurturing relationships is crucial for a person’s psychological health. I combine strategies and theories from TraumaPlay, Internal Family Systems Model, and Mindfulness practices to build these relationships and create insightful connections through Art Therapy and Play Therapy techniques. This integrated method encourages open dialogue and often leads to the invaluable question, “What is the need underlying the negative behavior?” A practice that pushes beyond the urge to respond directly to external behaviors, revealing a more profound and accurate understanding of the situation.
