About Keir Thomas

I’m a DELTA-qualified English language teacher with an MA in TESOL Leadership & Management and over 15 years’ experience across Asia and Europe. My work has taken me from elementary classrooms in Korea to university classrooms in Japan, summer schools in the UK, and adult education programmes in Vietnam. I currently teach and coordinate at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo with the British Council, where I lead a team of 14 teachers supporting more than students. In this role, I’ve helped increase student satisfaction in end-of-course feedback and redesigned our syllabus to integrate updated course materials more effectively. I’m actively engaged in professional development and research, having presented at the 2024 Future of ELT (FOELT) conference on using Flip for Extensive Speaking, and published a work-in-progress paper on the topic with JALT Tokyo. Outside work, I’m a long-distance runner (26 marathons and counting), hiker, and geocacher, always looking for the next adventure - whether it’s the 800km Camino de Santiago, climbing Mt Fuji, or exploring hidden corners of Tokyo.
