About Keith Bowie

In my experience, people in my industry skew towards: “tech people” or “people people.” Then there’s me – I’m a hybrid of the two. I’m passionate about the technology, and just as passionate about the people using and delivering the technology. Throughout my career I’ve seamlessly blended my passions together, developing and executing innovative technology projects while simultaneously creating diverse, high-performing teams. I’m known for building structures and teams, taking future needs into consideration while developing sound operational governance and project delivery principles. My work regularly makes a positive internal impact (culturally and structurally), as well as externally (improving the customer’s overall experience). I’m a visionary executive and strategic thinker who can develop, spearhead, implement and manage innovative projects that revolutionize people and businesses. I'm currently designing a cybersecurity risk management framework to benefit digital financial services in the developing world. The framework will aid people who, due to discrimination (such as gender, race, income, etc.), would not otherwise have access to financial services in a safe and secure manner. This tremendously rewarding work has provided me the opportunity to form relationships with key leaders of international organizations. Career Highlights Include: • Appointed US CIO for Scotiabank to build a technology organization from the ground up. I defined, hired and supervised a team of more than 120 staff in less than 18 months in order to satisfy federal and state regulatory legislation. My team successfully provided the necessary governance, technology and cybersecurity risk management and operational/project delivery framework to fulfill all regulatory requirements. o Created the foundation for the first U.S. technology risk assessment and cyber risk register. These programs and accomplishments were regularly praised by regulators, such as the FRBNY, NYDFS and FINRA. • Successfully built and led the team that designed and implemented a new data center and trading floor infrastructure in advance of an office relocation. I provided project oversight to external vendors and unionized construction crews. Everything was delivered on schedule, under budget and without any operational issues. • Successfully partnered with UBS and Scotiabank leaders to spearhead the integration of a technology team and technology from UBS into Scotiabank’s culture and technology eco-system, securing roles for key team members during the post-financial crisis recession.
