I'm a digital marketer, project manager, and creative producer specializing in video content, client relationship management, and sales process automation, a fact that surprises me even as I type this given the fact that I started off as a freelancer working on music videos and independent films in San Francisco over a decade ago. These days, I'm leading a team of salespeople and managing accounts at a real estate brokerage in Brooklyn. At this point, you're probably wondering how I went from wrangling psych-rock musicians to managing Kanban boards. In the words of the Grateful Dead,"What a Long Strange Trip it's Been"! It didn't take long to realize no-budget video shoots don't exactly pay the bills but it was the era of "Web 2.0" and San Francisco was booming with freshly minted startups flush with VC money. The buzz phrase "content is king" was permeating the Silicon Valley blogosphere and companies were eager to ditch their traditional SEO campaigns and cash in on the social media gold rush. Before I knew it, I was working full-time at a boutique video production agency helping a growing list of corporate, tech, and non-profit clients "pivot to video". At the time, I thought my new gig would be a detour along the road to critical acclaim as a producer of hard sci-fi cinema à la Kubrick's 2001 but, unbeknownst to me, I was embarking on a different odyssey entirely. As a producer and account manager, it was my job to discover our client's needs, manage the production of digital content that articulated their message, and implement strategies to reach their prospective customers. As my responsibilities expanded to include new business development, I found myself facing the same existential questions my clients were struggling with."Who is our target demographic?""What is our unique selling proposition?""Where should we connect with them?""When should we call them to action?", and "Why would they choose us over our competition?" My passion for storytelling ultimately lead to a newfound understanding of the concepts at the core of the digital marketing universe and, as inevitable as gravity, my skill-set evolved in a way that would forever alter the trajectory of my career. Now, as I continue my mission to engage audiences with inspiring content where ever they may be online, I can see it was only a matter of time and space.
