You may need to verify that a device performs as expected and is fit for purpose. For a drug delivery device you may need to characterise its extractables profile and determine leachables during a stability study. Plastic and rubber materials properties may be a focus as you are likely to be considering these materials in the design of a device. The long term properties of plastics can be a critical factor in the performance of a medical device.
