Areas of research interest: Sociolinguistics, including language and identity in North Africa and the Middle East; bilingualism, including codeswitching and diglossic switching; language and the law, especially Speak-English-Only rules in the workplace; language diversity in the US, including African American English; and language, gender, and sexuality. Expert-witness in cases dealing with Speak-English-Only rules in the workplace, medical malpractice, and libel.
