I have been practicing as a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in the state of Connecticut since 2011, focusing on Lyme Disease and tick-borne co-infections since 2013. With my Lyme patients, the goal is to assess the whole person, first by properly diagnosing acute or chronic tick-borne infections, then by assessing the wide-ranging effects of those diseases. I take a Functional Medicine approach in the care of all of my patients, treating digestive problems, hormonal issues, and inflammatory conditions. You are more than the sum of your parts. I don’t treat one symptom, one organ, or one diagnosis, because that approach doesn’t work. I take time with my patients to assess their health concerns and goals and use modern diagnostic techniques to establish a plan that includes dietary and lifestyle counseling and well-researched supplement and herbal regimens. Tick-borne diseases are not one factor, one solution diagnosis. Patients with Lyme and tick-borne disease often suffer from pain and inflammation, neurological deficits, compromised gut integrity, mental health issues, nutrient deficiency, hormonal disruption, compromised immunity, food allergies, viral infections, and mold or environmental toxicity. Tick-borne disease patients are often misdiagnosed or mistreated in the conventional medical system. They are given a short course of antibiotics and sent on their way with no consideration of the effects that Lyme and TBD have throughout the body. I’ve seen hundreds of patients who have been diagnosed with inflammatory diseases, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression or told ‘you’re just getting old’, who in fact have been bearing the burden of deep-seated infection for years or decades. Only by listening to and understanding what my patients are living through, and by assessing them as a whole person can we move forward on their journey towards health.
