I am still seeking partners as I have opened an adult day program for individuals with differing abilities in Indian River County called RISE Center IRC. Doors opened March 8, 2021! This population is already severely under-served as there are 3,612 individuals between 18-64 with cognitive disabilities in Indian River County. Of those individuals, 543 are unemployed and 1,683 are not in the labor force. I was an exceptional education teacher here in Indian River County and I worked with students with disabilities between the ages of 18-22. The primary focus was daily living, independent functioning, and career readiness skills. One of the most frequent questions that I was asked by parents when students were graduating was “what happens after my child leaves school?” It broke my heart to tell them that their options were so limited. My program will offer them support and empowerment to achieve independence and paid employment opportunities. I have extensive experience with this population and 10 years’ experience managing businesses, so my knowledge is well-rounded.
