About Kellison Platero

10+ years of experience in environmental health. My career started with Davis County Health Department in Utah where I worked as an environmental health scientist for 6 years. This was where I learned how to conduct risk based food inspections, analyze hazardous substances using various method such has hazcat and hazmat ID, work as a team member following NIMS and ICS protocols, assist scene clearance as part of a regional science team for environmental health emergency response, established radon monitoring and education throughout Davis county, worked with stakeholders and partners such as the Utah Cancer Action Network and regional hazmat team, taught basic safe food handlers training, analyzed trends regarding local radon levels and presented findings to regional peers at seminars, and assisted with internal policy and procedure development. Was a recipient of the Gerald Storey Memorial award from the Utah Environmental Health Association in 2015. Switched gears and spent a year in Alabama exploring then came back to environmental health in 2018 with Bernalillo County Health Protection in New Mexico. At BernCo, our programs include retail food inspections, small manufacture food inspection, swimming pool inspection, noise complaints, illegal dumping investigation, vector control, and some housing sanitation investigations. As the manager for health protection, duties include supervising 7 staff members, conducting a self-assessment and verification audit for our retail program standards, food code maintenance, and overseeing daily operations. Currently serving as the president for the New Mexico Environmental Health Association (NMEHA) and have lead the team through the latter part of the COVID-19 pandemic, including holding a virtual conference, and ultimately hosting an in-person annual vector control conference for our members, a return after a two year hiatus.
