About Kelly Sand

As a recent graduate of NYU's MA in Media, Culture, and Communication, I am passionate about advancing educational practices and creating a safer digital environment for younger generations. My research explores the moderation practices of platforms designed for young users and how these platforms are constructing digital parenthood, internet safety, and the broader media landscape. In my academic work, I have investigated the intersection of media exposure, digital experiences, and youth development, with a strong emphasis on digital trust, safety, and the societal implications of emerging technologies. I currently work as a course assistant for multiple undergraduate courses at NYU through NYU Langone Health’s Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I lead weekly recitations teaching positive psychology while also supporting classes about digital addiction, and have previously worked as a research intern at Children and Screens: Institute of Digital Media and Child Development. I also have a background in media production and content creation in addition to my academic experience, and I am deeply committed to helping students engage with critical issues surrounding education, media literacy, and digital well-being.
