About Kelly Storms

My involvement with the field of public education now spans 26 years. I have been privileged to serve students and families pre-school to adult learners of Lawrence County during this time. My involvement working with Lawrence County families includes creating and monitoring government funded programs through Hoosier Uplands, developing classes and programs with our local Girls' Club, and serving as an educator for both Mitchell and NL Community Schools. Some of my most rewarding experiences have been working with our local entities to assist our youth and families in need. Currently I serve as an Education Liason for the Lawrence County Juvenile Problem Solving Court and as an appointed member of our local Library Board. Both positions are volunteer. My professional goal is to simply make a positive impact for my students and their families. As a leader in Education, I would like to be able to continue learning about the possibilities of alternative education and the opportunities this field offers all stakeholders. In June 2018 I was asked to serve as the program director for NLCS response to the need for alternative education programming. Gateway Academy was created and 2020-21 will mark the academy's second year for serving students. Many community partnerships have been created to enhance the daily learning experience for our students. This very new endeavor for NLCS is exciting having a positive impact community-wide. Most recently, I have accepted the responsibility of building administrator for the North Lawrence Learning Center overseeing Playful Pathways Early Childhood Program, Empire Virtual School, and Gateway Academy. I have also accepted appointment to Lawrence County's new juvenile justice endeavor, Juvenile Detention Alternateve Initiatve (JDAI). I am honored to be able to assist Lawrence County youth and families.
