Background
About Kelsey Hoffman
As an educator, I have dedicated my career to creating inclusive, equitable learning environments where all students—especially those with disabilities—can thrive. My work in special education has centered on dismantling systemic barriers, fostering strong relationships with students and families, and implementing data-driven strategies to support student success. I specialize in working with students who have experienced adverse life events, trauma, and school disruptions, ensuring they have access to high-quality instruction in the least restrictive environment. Through my leadership in special education, I have collaborated with multidisciplinary teams across multiple schools, co-planned with SpEd and ML teachers, and developed innovative tools such as a QR code system for data collection to streamline student progress monitoring. Beyond the classroom, I actively contribute to professional learning communities, mentor educators in inclusive practices, and provide training on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differentiated instruction, and trauma-informed teaching. My experience spans Seattle Public Schools, Morningside Academy, and specialized programs such as the New Orleans Therapeutic Day Program, where I worked to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline and advocate for marginalized students. Outside of education, I am passionate about the outdoors and volunteer as the Seattle Branch Chair for The Mountaineers. I teach adults mountaineering skills, helping them build confidence in technical terrain while fostering leadership and teamwork in the mountains. Whether guiding new climbers through their first alpine ascent or organizing community-driven outdoor programs, I find deep fulfillment in supporting others as they push their limits and develop resilience. When I’m not working, I’m an avid mountaineer, backcountry skier, runner, and rock climber—always seeking new trails and outdoor challenges. Let’s connect and collaborate on building more inclusive and effective educational systems!
