About Kelsey Maes

Dr. Kelsey Amber Maes is a highly accomplished oboist and music educator with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Instrumental Music Performance from Arizona State University. With a strong background in oboe performance and music theory, Kelsey has made significant contributions to the field, including being selected to give a lecture at the 2024 International Double Reed Society Conference, subbing with orchestras across the country, and being recognized as a semifinalist at the Coltman Chamber Music Competition and a quarterfinalist at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2023. In addition to her musical pursuits, Kelsey is dedicated to interdisciplinary pedagogical research for more equitable and accessible music education, as well as further exploration of alternative natural materials for oboe reeds. In addition to performing and teaching, Kelsey is currently working on starting a small design business geared toward classical musicians which includes designing posters, logos, and stickers. The logo she designed for herself is in the cover photo on her LinkedIn profile, which incorporates music theory, oboe, neurodiversity, and an Arundo donax plant as an ode to her continuing research on alternative natural materials for oboe reeds.
