Background

About Ken Jablon

My academic background was in marketing but most of my career was in banking, with many positions that had little to do with marketing but the marketing background was always a driver. In the mid-1960a, I was the head of marking research for the American Bankers Association when marketing/marketing research did not exist in most US banks. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, I was involved in the infancy of consumer electronic banking by consulting for many of the large banks, other financial institutions and government agencies involved with early consumer electronic funds transfer systems and services. I was at the Chase Manhattan Bank for 22 years holding down various senior positions including: Director of Marketing and Product Management for the New York branch system where I: Introduced the first relationship consumer deposit pricing for a major bank in NYC. Came up with a unique and legal customer premium for bank deposits that brought in a major increase in bank deposits. The Federal Reserve rewrote their rules to make it illegal. At the same time, I worked with Wells Rich Greene ad agency on a very creative campaign, which helped to continue adding consumer deposits to the bank. An “HR experiment” put a staff guy (me) in charge of a branch division of more than 50 branches. Headed up an International Consumer Banking team, which eventually lead to a major increase in Chase’s business with individuals outside of the US. The bank sold all of these international consumer businesses in the 1990s. Directed Planning for the consumer part of the bank during a major expansion of Consumer Banking and built the first household profitability system at the bank. My last job was at Dime Savings Bank where I helped Dime become a major player in the HELOC business in the NY metro area. Dime was purchased by WaMu—and I retired! I’m now enjoying being on the Board of the Chase Alumni Association helping to coordinate events and the website
