About Ken Stein

Began in Semiconductor Industry at Intel Corporation, Test engineering and characterization design work. Moved into home computer industry in early 80's with Atari and worked develping manufaturing test and verificaiton suites hardware and software for their line of PC's. Entered the Hard Disk Drive industry in the mid 80's and was at the forefront of developing Motion Control embedded closed loop systems for Tandon and Western Digital. Worked with systems as simple as stepper controlled rack and pinion actuators to 30k + TPI linear Voice coil state space systems. Branched to a start up in the late 90's developing the first Compact Flash sized rotating media HDD in the type 1 3mm height package (similar to IBM Microdrive but thinner). Spent a few years after that working for Broadcom in roles of both Engineering and Project management of a large scale integration project for the HDD industry. Currently I'm with Zebra Technologies in Camarillo, CA working with dye sublimation printers for the ID card secured industry. RFID work, Magnetic stripe encoding, high speed high resolution dye sub transfer etc. Recently worked on project with Vail Resorts where season ski passes are now printed as well as RFID encoded such that ski passes can be read from 30 ft away and be worn under My hobbies are Golf, Music, and Woodwork.
