About Ken Tracy

I retired from EY after 33 years in 2016. I am now a semi-retired partner in the Seattle office of Kieckhafer Buss & Fletcher (KBF CPAs), a regional West Coast CPA firm with an emphasis on income tax accounting (ASC 740) and tax compliance services to over 150 public companies and hundreds of PE-owned and VC-backed companies. I retired from teaching the Accounting for Income Taxes class at the Masters of Science in Taxation program at the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington. I have also taught the Taxation of Mergers & Acquisitions course at UW. I am an experienced tax advisor with over 40 years of serving clients in 5 regions of the US - Denver, Washington D.C, Dallas, San Francisco and Seattle. I have been serving clients in the Pacific Northwest since in the manufacturing, retail, consumer products, health care, life sciences, technology, insurance, aerospace, government contracting and energy sectors. My passion has been helping clients bring value to their shareholders and other constituencies through prudent management of their effective tax rate and cash flow, while evaluating and managing risk. My personal tax technical expertise is in Federal Taxation and Income Tax Accounting (ASC 740 AKA FAS 109). But since most of my clients were multinational and multistate, I have significant experience serving clients in the areas of international taxation, state & local taxation, mergers & acquisitions, customs and indirect taxes, and a variety of other specialties. Over the course of my career, I have worked with public companies and private and family businesses and C corporations, tax-exempt organizations, and passthrough entities. I served as EY's National Director of Health Sciences Tax Services and spent three years at EY's National Tax Office, monitoring legislative and regulatory developments and managing client matters before the National Office of the IRS, including private letter ruling requests.
