About Kenan Elayan

With over two years of work experience in scientific research, I am passionate about applying my skills and knowledge in bioinformatics, pharmacometrics, and literature reviews to solve complex and impactful problems in the field of life sciences. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Pharmacometrics at the University of Maryland, where I aim to learn how to design, analyze, and interpret clinical trials and pharmacological data. I am also beginning a research position at the University of Alberta in Dr. Barakat's lab as an intern researcher. I am excited to join a team that shares my vision of advancing scientific discovery and innovation through cutting-edge technology and collaboration. In my most recent role as a Scientific Researcher at Compute Canada, I analyzed thousands of SARS-CoV-2 RNA sequences taken from patients to find potentially highly conserved sequences for potential drug targets. Using bioinformatics principles and tools such as Linux, Python, Dropbox, and various online databases, I was able to identify and validate several candidate sequences that could be used for further testing and development. I also conducted literature reviews to support the findings and recommendations of the project. I enjoyed working with a diverse and talented team of researchers and contributing to a meaningful and timely cause.
