Background
About Kendra Meyer
Now in my eleventh year as a public school educator, I have been creating and implementing the visual art curriculum for K-5th graders at urban schools in Portland, Oregon. I happily weave the sciences, technology, math, socio-emotional learning, and restorative justice into the art that we do. My interest in the integration of arts and other subject areas stems not only from my time at The Ohio State University Art Education program, and working in a multi-disciplinary contemporary arts center, but also from when I was on the team of The Right Brain Initiative. Right Brain sought to connect community teaching artists with schools by connecting the arts with other subject areas and enriching the residencies that took place through the program. Teachers and artists learned together about meaningful ways to connect learning for students. Earlier in my career, I had five years of experience creating and managing educational programs in medium-sized, rapidly-growing, arts institutions. With an ability to multi-task, stay up-to-date on learning and networking technologies, and respond to rapidly-changing audiences and artists' needs, I am committed to connecting people with the arts in the ways that are most relevant to their own lives. I believe that a rich and personal arts education is essential for becoming an effective member of society. Specialties: creating robust arts education experiences, working with teachers and students from various backgrounds, working with traditionally-underserved students and families, working with high-profile artists in the visual and performing arts, curating film and performing arts for children, teens, and families, summer camp administration, teaching diverse audiences, teaching for special needs, including adults and children with developmental disabilities and autism
