About Kendra Wise

I am a collaborative, dedicated environmental health leader focused on evidence-based, community-engaged public health best practices, as well as a Registered California Environmental Health Specialist. I formerly supervised local regulatory activities for retail food, recreational health, body art, substandard housing complaints and environmental health-specific emergency response for the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department, Environmental Health Services. My professional interests include creative regulatory approaches for emerging community needs, relationship-based and cooperative models for achieving regulatory compliance, environmental health emergency response and effective communication practices. I currently provide practice-oriented and experience-informed education to students in the Culinary Arts program at Santa Barbara City College, teaching courses on foodservice sanitation and hospitality controls. I deeply enjoy teaching adult learners and have a special appreciation for their unique needs and challenges. As a consultant, I bring an informed, experienced, collaborative approach to regulatory compliance for my clients. I am interested in identifying and supporting creative regulatory solutions to emerging community and business needs, focusing on ensuring public health while helping nonprofit and commercial organizations fulfill their goals. My experience at the local and state levels as well as my long-term engagement in the community in a variety of roles helps me identify resources and opportunities that support project teams to successful outcomes. I currently volunteer with several local non-profit organizations, including service as a Board member. My volunteer interests support organizations that work for social justice and equity, resilient communities, and a vibrant local food system.
