About Kendy Schwing

Growing up in the Gresham area, I started advocating for my community at a young age. I took this passion to the University of Oregon in Eugene, and completed my degree with a double major in political science and journalism, with focuses in public policy and visual communication. My proudest projects include my documentary surrounding the polarization seen in school board races throughout the country and a case study analyzing an affordable cooperative housing model in Eugene. Professionally, I have worked on local political campaigns and interned for Oregon AFSCME, one of the largest labor unions in the state. In these roles, I canvassed thousands of doors to support progressive candidates, called countless voters to turn out the vote, wrote testimony in support of AFSCME-prioritized bills and worked on policies designed to help working people. I hope to continue in the labor movement, whether it’s working to get labor-friendly legislation passed or organizing new worksites.
