About Kenna Farek

A very wise professor of mine once told me that "you are the sum total of your experiences"; I have found that there are no truer words. I can remember being a young freshman, bound and determined that there was only one path to being a Doctor, and that path was perfection. After failing and frequently falling on my face, getting back up and falling again, I finally realized that overcoming adversity is an essential part of life. My experiences have led me to countless ups and downs, failures and successes; but every single one of those experiences have shaped me into the determined and passionate student that I am today. This journey and those experiences have provided me with incredible leadership opportunities as a Peer Leader, mentor and organization officer, as well as formative service opportunities that have refined and refocused my idea of being a healer. I am striving to become a physician with a mindset focused on the health and wellbeing of the patient as the sum total of his or her experiences, and not just his or her disease. Working as a Teaching Assistant for First Year Medical Students has only strengthened my determination to become a doctor. This masters of medical science degree has taught me more than I ever thought possible. I learned so much about academia, medicine and myself. I can't wait to use all I've learned next year at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine!
