About Kenya Bushell

A student's educational journey is as important as their end goal. I am dedicated to guiding students learning through critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. These 4 skills are needed for not only school but also in the world around them. My experience teaching as a Special Education Teacher, as well as Director of Special Populations at Explore Charter School, has helped me to develop diverse pedagogical best practices across K-5 for both Literacy and Math. Given this role, I have had experience teaching Math and ELA across K through 5th grade, as a Special Education co-teacher and a lead teacher in ICT and SETSS classrooms. These instructional experiences afforded me a breadth of experience with and comprehension of the longitudinal trajectory of Common Core standards in elementary school Math and ELA. As the Director of Special Populations at Explore Charter School, I led my team to implement a school-based RTI program, refine the programmatic vision and professional development for Special Education, and centralize a coherent K-5 ENL instructional and compliance program. Understanding curriculum and common core standards across contents and grades should afford me the tools, resources, and experiences to pull from in order to coach, teach, and support both scholars and staff.
