About Kerry Bruner

After 26 years as an elementary school secretary, I was introduced to the world of Human Resources and finally knew what I wanted to be when I grow up. In 2005 I enrolled in online classes toward my HR degree and took an entry-level position as an HR Tech at Montana State Prison. After nine months I was promoted to HR Specialist in charge of Security Staff and remained in that position until October 2010. At that time I took an early state retirement and accepted a position as District Employment Coordinator with Safeway. I was responsible for recruiting and basic HR functions for the 12 Montana stores. In November of 2013 Safeway went through a reorganization in preparation for sale of the company and my position was one of many that were eliminated. In February 2014 I entered the hospitality field by accepting a position as Human Resources Manager with Montage Hotels and Resorts at Spanish Peaks Mountain Club in Big Sky, MT. Since I was new to the hospitality business, I completed a 15-week certificate program in Hospitality Business Operations through Michigan State University. I earned an Associate's Degree in HR Management in 2008, a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 2011 and will finish my Master's in HR Management in December 2019. I am PHR and SHRM-CP certified. In 2017 I moved to North Carolina and now work as Director of HR Operations at Pitt Community College.
