About Kerstin E. Auer

Currently, I am investigating the effects of over-nutrition and obesity on behavior, reproduction, and metabolism. I address this question in different mouse models and apply experimental genetics to better understand the underlying mechanisms in fat metabolism. Within the past years, I have become an expert on animal reproduction and mouse models. I have deepened my background in mate choice and sexual selection, and I have constantly broadened my skills and expertise in reproductive biology. The funding I received from the Bright Sparks Call enabled me to successfully build up a sperm lab. I learned state-of-the-art technologies in artificial reproduction like computer-assisted sperm analysis and embryo transfer. I have been applying these methods in the context of laboratory animal science, aiming to optimize reproductive fitness and maximize the welfare of laboratory animals. I envision myself in a position that allows me to pose, pursue, and answer exciting questions that have long-lasting impact on reproduction and health. I aim to apply an interdisciplinary approach and to build upon knowledge from different research fields like behavioural ecology, reproductive medicine and laboratory animal science, thereby creating results with broad applicability and advancing multiple research fields. I see myself in a position that requires boldness, decisive leadership, and intrinsic motivation. I seek an opportunity to inspire other people, promote knowledge transfer, and create a benefit for society.
