Background
About Keshia Wall
Keshia Wall, of Greensboro, NC, is a scholar and artist with a rich background in dance and interdisciplinary studies. She earned her undergraduate degree from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, double majoring in dance and African American studies. She further honed her expertise by completing the Master of Fine Arts in Dance degree program at Hollins University, a collaboration with Kunstlerhavs Mousontvrm, and The Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, supported by The Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company. Presently serving as an Assistant Professor at Elon University, Wall is deeply engaged in academia and the arts. She not only coordinates the African and African American Studies minor but also imparts her knowledge through courses in contemporary and traditional West African dance. She annually leads a study abroad trip to Ghana in collaboration with the University of Ghana Legon and the Ghana Dance Ensemble. Wall's scholarly contributions have been widely recognized, with recent presentations at esteemed conferences such as the International Association of Blacks in Dance, The Association for the Study of African American Life and History, and the Collegium for African Diaspora in Dance. In 2023, her outstanding achievements led to her being named a Woman of Color Leadership Project Fellow by the National Women’s Studies Association. In the realm of choreography and film, Wall's works have garnered acclaim at renowned festivals, including the Midwest Regional Alternative Dance Festival and The London Monthly International Dance Film Festival. Her research delves into the presence of West African dance in higher education, exploring how this art form can be embraced as a valued and valid domain in both scholarship and performance, contributing significantly to the field's epistemological and ontological discourse. She seamlessly bridges academia and the arts with her profound contributions and unwavering commitment to the cultural and educational enrichment of her community.
