About Kess Carpenter
PhD (ABD) candidate specializing in the history of culture, gender, and sexuality during the Cold War period in North America. My Dissertation focuses on the 1980s porn wars, exploring the relationship between politics, culture, and feminism in the United States from the late 1970s to early 1990s. Currently, I'm teaching a third-year undergraduate history course entitled "Stranger Things: Politics, Memory, and Culture in 1980s America" at Wilfrid Laurier University. Along with an avid passion for teaching and research, I also love uncovering ways of thinking about and learning creatively from the past. I am also an advocate and educator on topics related to 2SLGBTQIA+ experiences and history. I am currently a board member at Youthline.
